One year, we shot 32 weddings as well as shooting newborn sessions, family sessions, and commercial sessions. That was WAY too many with two little girls at home. At that time, we decided to focus on the weddings, limit the number of things we were doing and get away from studio things. (This is also because the studio we had flooded...that’s a whole other story.)
So we focused on the weddings and doing outdoor photos for about 5 years. The photography business grew to something we had never really planned for it to be. What started out a simple hobby had grown to be a full time job for Zach.
When we had our youngest Adele, we knew we were going to need to buy the props, and outfits for newborn photos. We hadn’t done them in about 6 years. What we had really wasn’t in style. The wraps were completely foriegn to us because when our middle child was born, it was all about naked baby photos. The babies were tastefully positioned to cover certain body parts, but the hiney was out for most baby photos.
We brought our sweet little nugget home. We had the props, still couldn’t wrap and ended up with her in a diaper cover, but the photos turned out great! For our family photos, we had Erica thompson, Zach’s cousin and fellow wedding shooter for Zachary Straw Photography take the photos.
It came so naturally to do the photos, and we realized we were missing out on a whole part of why we started doing photography. We are both people people. We love talking to new people and meeting their families. Especially seeing their families grow!
I (Audra) started taking a photography class online for baby photos. We now know how to do those tricky wraps! Zach stays behind the camera for baby photos, and I help out to make sure the baby is comfortable, beautiful, safe, and sometimes smiley.
We are happy to announce we are going to start taking photos for newborns and up in our new studio location. We are already so in love with the images we were able to take there. We can’t wait to see how this business is going to change and grow this coming year!
